Rollover To Zoom
Backsberg's Sydney Back Merlot honors the Lithuanian Jewish patriarch whose family built the Paarl-side Backsberg estate. Smooth Paarl-grown Merlot with soft, juicy Cape-fruit character — mevushal, so it pours seamlessly at any Shabbos table.
Mood: Smooth, sun, easy.
"Paarl Merlot the way it should be — soft, juicy, no oak makeup, and mevushal at $20. A Shabbos weeknight staple that punches well above its price."
Tasting Notes
Deep ruby. Nose of ripe plum, raspberry, dark cherry and a whisper of cocoa. The palate is soft and fruit-forward with velvety tannins, dark berry fruit and a subtle oak whisper. Finish is smooth, gently spiced and cleanly resolved.
Food Pairing
The Merlot for weeknight steak, Shabbos brisket, chicken shawarma, or a good burger. Also solid alongside pizza night, cholent, and grilled boerewors-style sausage.
