Galil Mountain Winery was founded in 2000 as a joint venture between the Golan Heights Winery and Kibbutz Yiron, with vineyards perched along the Lebanese border in the Upper Galilee. Alon — Hebrew for oak — is the winery's flagship red blend, drawing Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Franc from those high-altitude vineyards and aging the result for 12 months in French oak.
This is the bottle that punches well above its price. Serve it at any Shabbos table and let the blend speak for itself — most guests will assume you paid double.
Tasting notes
Deep ruby-purple in the glass. The nose opens with raspberry, ripe cherry, and a savory herbal lift — Mediterranean garrigue, a touch of black pepper from the Syrah. The palate is medium-to-full bodied with red and black fruit, soft tannins, and a finish carrying oak spice and well-judged freshness.
Pairing
Built for grilled lamb chops, ribeye, slow-roasted shoulder, and any hard cheese. Holds up to cholent on Shabbos morning and stands its ground next to smoked duck.
