Hagafen was California's first kosher winery, and Ernie Weir's Napa Cabernet remains its flagship. Estate-bottled fruit from along the Silverado Trail, one mile south of the Stags Leap appellation — old-school Napa, full kosher, mevushal at the table.

Mood: Inky, structured, Napa-classic.

Sommelier's Note

“The grown-up California kosher Cab — bottle age is its friend, brisket is its match, and the mevushal seal means the simcha host can pour without giving it a second thought.”

Tasting Notes

The nose is dense with bakers' chocolate, black cherry, and dried herbs, with a curl of cedar and graphite behind. The palate is brooding and spice-filled — black licorice, black plum, cranberry, and cocoa nib over a silky mid-palate built by 10% Cabernet Franc. Nineteen months in small French and American oak barrels stretch the finish into warm vanilla, sweet tobacco, and fine-grained tannin.

Food Pairing

Slow-braised Shabbos brisket, a Yom Tov rib roast, or a steakhouse cut for a simcha dinner. Holds up to hard cheeses and dark chocolate at the end of the meal.
