Rollover To Zoom
Coppersea's Excelsior is the first truly 100% New York Bourbon since Prohibition — Hudson Valley grains, floor-malted in-house, aged in a New York-coopered barrel from Hudson Valley oak. One of a handful of American distilleries still doing heritage grain-to-glass distilling.
Mood: Grain-to-glass, artisanal, Hudson.
"Coppersea are old-school heritage distillers — floor-malted grain, local oak, real terroir. Excelsior is what American whiskey used to be before industrial scale. Serious craft."
Tasting Notes
Deep amber. Nose of vanilla, roasted almond, sweet corn polenta and warm Hudson Valley oak. The palate is complex and grain-forward — black pepper and nutmeg from 30% rye, apricot, polenta sweetness, cedar and vanilla. Finish is long, spicy and gently sweet.
Food Pairing
A neat sipper in a Glencairn — this is a bottle to slow down for. Pairs with dark chocolate, roasted nuts, aged cheddar-style cheese, or a good cigar in the sukkah.
