Rollover To Zoom
Garrison Brothers Balmorhea is the distillery's first twice-barreled bourbon — four years in one new American oak barrel, a fifth year in a second. Bottled at 115 proof from Texas-grown corn, winter wheat and malted barley. Two-time US Micro Whisky of the Year, SF Double Gold — Texas bourbon at collector level.
Mood: Heat, oak, big.
"Balmorhea is bourbon candy — a second barrel pass at Texas heat cranks the caramel and dark fruit way up. Not a subtle bottle, but stunning next to a serious cigar."
Tasting Notes
Deep mahogany in the glass. Nose of dark caramel, brown sugar, roasted pecan, cherry cordial and warm oak spice. The palate is dense and full at 115 proof — molasses, dark chocolate, dried fig, warming baking spice and a subtle char note. Finish is long, hot, sweet and lingering.
Food Pairing
A sipper — neat in a Glencairn, or over a single large rock. Pairs with dark chocolate torte, pecan pie, aged hard cheeses, or a good cigar on Chol HaMoed evening in the sukkah.
