The Herzog Generation IX Stags Leap Cabernet Sauvignon is the family's commemorative bottling for nine generations of winemaking — a small-allocation Cab from the Stags Leap District, the 1,200-acre Napa AVA famous for blending Cabernet power with elegance. A serious-occasion red. Pour it for the milestone, not the random Tuesday.
Mood: Ceremonial, polished, ageworthy.
Tasting Notes
Sun-ripened boysenberry and blueberry up front, leaning into black cherry liqueur and blackcurrant blossom. Warm cinnamon and star anise weave through the mid-palate. The finish is long with fine-grained, polished tannins from 26 months in a single French oak barrel.
Food Pairing
Dry-aged ribeye, rack of lamb, slow-braised short ribs, or aged hard cheeses. Decant 60-90 minutes before serving.
