Rollover To Zoom
James E. Pepper is a revived Lexington, Kentucky label tracing its lineage to Colonel Pepper's 19th-century distillery. The 1776 Straight Rye is distilled in Indiana from a high-rye mashbill (95% rye, 5% malted barley), aged three to four years and bottled at 100 proof.
Mood: Bright. Minty. Peppery.
Sommelier’s note
“A bold high-rye for cocktail builders — no brand-level hekhsher found across the major American directories.”
Tasting notes
Fresh mint, eucalyptus, clove and a touch of orange peel. Crushed mint, green grass, orange zest and root beer with a peppery edge. Medium with mint and rye spice that turns lightly dry.
Pairing
Built for cocktails - a peppery Manhattan, a Sazerac, a brisk rye Old Fashioned. Stands up to smoked brisket, pastrami, or sharp cheddar.
