Rollover To Zoom
Leroux Dark Crème de Cacao is one of the classic American cordials: a dark brown chocolate-flavored liqueur that's been on back-bars since the mid-century. Distilled in Philadelphia by Jacquin, part of the Leroux line, kosher and reliably on-shelf.
Mood: Rich, sweet, dessert-hour.
Bartender's note
"The dark-chocolate cordial that built the Grasshopper and the Brandy Alexander. Warm cocoa, brown sugar, a whiff of vanilla. Cheap enough to actually use behind the bar."
Tasting notes
Aromas of dark cocoa, brown sugar, and toasted vanilla bean. The palate is medium-sweet, syrupy but not cloying, with milk chocolate, coffee, and a light spirit warmth. The finish is warm and cocoa-lingered.
Best served
A staple for classic cocktails: Brandy Alexander, Grasshopper, chocolate martini, mudslide. Also drizzled over vanilla ice cream, into hot coffee, or straight in a cordial glass after dessert.
