The Glenrothes has been distilling in the Speyside village of Rothes since 1879, and it built its name on sherry-cask maturation. The 18 is the point in the range where that sherry influence turns from a note into the whole character.
Mood: Rich, sherried, mature.
Our sommelier says
Eighteen years of sherry oak wants nothing added. A drop of water at most, and no ice.
Tasting notes
Dried fruit, orange peel and warm baking spice. Rich and rounded across the palate with sweet oak and a nutty depth. A long, warm, spiced finish.
Food pairing
Neat, after dinner. Good with dark chocolate and with a strong coffee.
