A semi-sweet French red — moelleux, as the label puts it — bottled by Coteaux d'Albret in the south-west and sold under the Herzog Selection banner. It is a soft, sweet-edged red for the kiddush table, not a Rhône heavyweight.
Mood: Soft, sweet, simple.
Our sommelier says
Serve it cool. A semi-sweet red shows better with a slight chill on it.
Tasting notes
Ripe red berries and a little sweet spice. Soft and semi-sweet across the palate with very light tannin. A short, gently sweet finish.
Food pairing
Kiddush, cold cuts, kugel and sweet cholent. Easy alongside a heavy Shabbos lunch.
