Bazelet HaGolan means basalt of the Golan, which is exactly what its vineyards sit on — black volcanic rock that holds heat by day and gives it back at night. The Merlot comes in ripe and full at over fifteen percent.
Mood: Ripe, warm, volcanic.
Our sommelier says
This is a big, warm red. Serve it a touch below room temperature so the alcohol does not run ahead of the fruit.
Tasting notes
Black plum, cocoa and sweet spice. Full and ripe across the palate with soft tannin and real warmth. A long, warm, plummy finish.
Food pairing
Grilled meat, brisket and cholent. It can carry a heavy Shabbos lunch.
