Rollover To Zoom
Hajdu Syrah is a small-lot Northern California Syrah from Jonathan Hajdu, the longtime cellarmaster at Covenant Wines, made under his own Berkeley-based label. Sourced from cool-climate vineyards, fermented native, and aged in French oak with a minimalist hand.
Mood: Inky, peppery, garage-kosher.
Sommelier’s note
“One of the few serious Rhone-style Syrahs in kosher — made by hand in Berkeley, in lots small enough that every bottle counts.”
Tasting notes
Blackberry, cracked black pepper, smoked meat, violet, a whisper of bramble. Full-bodied, dry, structured tannins, dark-fruit core with savory olive and tapenade notes. Long, peppery, lightly smoky, with grippy oak tannins built to age.
Pairing
Brisket, lamb shoulder, smoked duck, hard aged cheeses, anything off the grill.
