Photo for reference. Vintage may differ from the bottle shipped.
Scapegrace Black is jet black in the bottle and turns violet-pink when you add tonic — the colour comes from botanicals including aronia berry and butterfly pea, not from dye. Small batch, distilled in New Zealand.
Mood: Black, theatrical, botanical.
Our sommelier says
Pour the tonic at the table. The colour change is half of what you are buying and it only happens once.
Tasting notes
Juniper, citrus peel and a dark berry note. Dry and juniper-led across the palate with a soft berry undertone. A clean, peppery finish.
Food pairing
Gin and tonic, obviously — and it makes a striking negroni. Good with smoked fish and olives.
