Rollover To Zoom
Askalon Arak is the classic Israeli arak from Askalon Winery — since 1925, distilled from grape and anise, bottled at 40 percent. The lion-crest label is a fixture on Israeli tables from Purim to Shabbos afternoon.
Mood: Bright, traditional, ceremonial.
Sommelier’s note
“A clean, bright arak — sharp anise, clean grape spirit underneath, no rough edges. Pours milky white the second water hits.”
Tasting notes
Sharp anise and licorice lift the nose, with a light spice underneath. Clean and bright — anise leads, warm spirit carries the middle, a soft grape sweetness lingers. Long, clean, dry — the licorice echo stays with you.
Pairing
Pour one part arak to two parts ice water. Perfect alongside mezze, grilled lamb, spicy salatim, or as the toast at a Shabbos kiddush.
