Casa de Hamsa Tequila: The Whole Range, Explained
Casa de Hamsa is the hamsa-shaped bottle on the tequila shelf - and it is one of the brands people come to us searching for by name rather than browsing their way to. So here is the whole thing in one place: what is actually in it, how the three bottles differ, and which one to buy.
The short version: 100% Blue Weber agave from the Jalisco Highlands, three ingredients, no additives, and three expressions that walk from clean raw agave to caramel and oak.
Where it is made, and why the number matters
Every bottle in the range is distilled at Casa Tequilera Alma de Mexico, NOM 1654, in the Jalisco Highlands. That NOM number is the most useful thing printed on any tequila label. It is the distillery's registration, and it tells you exactly which building the spirit came out of no matter what the brand on the front says. Two brands sharing a NOM came off the same equipment.
The recipe is deliberately short: cooked blue agave, deep well water, champagne yeast. That is it. No mixto, no additives, no caramel colouring to fake age. This is worth more attention than it usually gets - a great deal of the tequila on American shelves is quietly sweetened, softened or coloured after distilling, and the rules do not require anyone to tell you.
The three bottles
| Expression | Size | What the barrel did | Price |
| Casa de Hamsa Blanco | 1 litre | Nothing - unaged | $79.99 |
| Casa de Hamsa Reposado | 750ml | Rested in American oak | $94.99 |
| Casa de Hamsa Añejo | 750ml | Aged in oak, longer | $104.99 |
All three sit at 40% alcohol, which is standard for tequila and the same strength as most whisky.
The Blanco is the one to taste first if you want to know what the distillery is actually doing, because there is no barrel to hide behind. Bright, agave-forward, a mineral bite behind it. Straight from the freezer or built into a Paloma. Note that it is the litre bottle, so the per-ounce price is friendlier than the shelf price suggests.
The Reposado is rested in American oak and comes out somewhere in the middle - cooked agave still in front, vanilla and soft spice arriving behind it. This is the one for somebody who drinks whisky and is being talked into tequila.
The Añejo has had the longest in wood: cooked agave, sweet caramel, vanilla, gentle spice. Sipping tequila, neat, in a glass you would use for brandy. It comes in the hand-painted hamsa-shaped bottle, which is the reason a fair number of them get bought as gifts rather than for drinking.
If the age words are the confusing part
Blanco, reposado and añejo are not quality grades, they are time in oak - and more oak is not automatically better, it is just different. We wrote the full explanation of blanco, reposado and añejo if you want the whole thing, and tequila versus mezcal if the smoky bottle next to it is the real question.
Where it sits on the shelf
Casa de Hamsa is priced as an ultra-premium bottle and we would rather say that plainly than pretend otherwise. Here is the honest map of our blanco tequilas:
| Bottle | Size | Price |
| Jose Cuervo Silver Especial | 750ml | $21.99 |
| Lunazul Blanco | 750ml | $30.99 |
| Espolon Blanco | 750ml | $33.99 |
| Casamigos Blanco | 750ml | $54.99 |
| Casa de Hamsa Blanco | 1 litre | $79.99 |
| Clase Azul Plata | 750ml | $139.99 |
If you are mixing a pitcher of margaritas for a crowd, Espolon or Lunazul is the sensible buy and nobody will know. Casa de Hamsa earns its price when the bottle is going on a table where people will look at it - a yom tov kiddush, a l'chaim after davening, a gift. That is a real use, it is just a different one.
Is it kosher?
Casa de Hamsa is bottled for the American frum market, and the straightforward case is on its side: 100% agave tequila with nothing added after distilling is about as simple as spirits get. Where tequila gets complicated is additives, flavourings, sweeteners and unusual cask finishes - which is exactly why we keep a separate guide to which tequilas are kosher rather than making a blanket claim about the category.
If you want the certification confirmed on the specific bottle in front of you, call the store and we will read you what is on it.
Elsewhere on the tequila shelf
The whole range lives in Tequila & Mezcal. If you are comparing against the other names people ask for, we have written up Clase Azul, Patron and Don Julio, and what a bottle of tequila should cost covers the pricing question across the whole shelf.
Cases ship free, and we ship anywhere in the country.
